Day 18, orange you glad I'm here?

Today.  Day 18.  Shopping and relaxing.  Reading and swimming.
This blog is about Artie and Leinen.  What's cuter than a doggie on the couch with his squeaky fox?  The giraffes to the right are because I have a friend who once said that her son (I think) said you see a giraffe every day.  So we are always sending each other pictures of giraffes.  These were taken at a mall we went to today.  I was able to finally get a bathing suit, and a sun dress.  Sounds like I would have needed it in Alaska today!  We also got the oil changed on the truck and groceries.  Around the corner of our RV park is one of those little produce stores.  I was hoping to get more berries, but they didn't have those.  But what they had, they had samples of.  Yes, everything!  Dates, nuts (roasted in many flavors), dried fruit, dried vegetables, We bought 2 white peaches, and a bag of dried tomatoes.  I could have spent lots more money there, but we'll be broke if I buy everything I want at every little produce spot.

And if you know my classroom, I've invested way too much money on Peanuts decorations.  I've even been given several gifts of animated stuffed Snoopys and Woodstocks that play music.  Always the same piano tune, too.

We are parked for two nights at Orange Grove RV Park in Bakersfield, CA.  You park in an orchard, basically.  Or the orchard was planted in the RV park.  Whatever, this is the tree by our RV

Walking Artie and Leinen around this park is a challenge.  They go from orange tree shade to orange tree shade.  I don't let them pee on the trees, so we look for posts.  The fenced in dog walk is way too far away in this park.  The flowered bush you see here is where Artie likes to pee.  I have grown these as flowering plants in Fairbanks.  I love how the flowers change color as they open up.

This is our address # 44 Orchard Lane.

There is Orange Blossom Lane, plus Sunkist Drive, Packing House Lane, Orange Grove Drive, Navel Ave., and Valencia Ave.  ha ha ha

This is where they store the golf carts.  Their shed has this old town look to it.  The golf carts go into the "stable" on far left.

Old rusting farm equipment on display.

This is a pretty large park, and basically deserted.  It fills up later in the year.  All those trees are orange trees.

If you look close, you'll see some oranges still on this tree.

Another look of the park

Just a couple more pics of what the land looks like outside of our RV park.  Ayako, Richard's mom, once commented that she didn't know why anyone would want to live there.  I agree.  I love green, and I think snow is beautiful.
When we were driving south yesterday in the 92 degree heat I marveled at how I could see off in the distance the hazy look of mountains with snow.
Tonight's dinner is quickly becoming a favorite. Richard cooks up chicken.  We add it to fresh spring mix salad.  Then add whatever is around like strawberries, dried cranberries, walnuts, feta cheese, apples, pecans, etc, etc, etc.
Tomorrow we head towards Las Vegas.

  1. Did you find your song title yet? I'm thinking not so much just oranges, but that "timeless classic". (HAHA) by the popular group from the land down under...The Wiggles belting out "Fruit Salad, yummy yummy"....your boys were probably too old to come under the spell of the wiggles, but mine were prime for when they were popular.

And of course, I'm already humming tomorrow's tune...Viva, Las Vegas?! Complete with show girls and a plethora of Elvis impersonators.

  2. I can't imagine how good an orange grove would smell. I am still enjoying all the pictures. I've never been south of San Francisco in California.

    1. Sorry, this is not the time of year for scents in the oranges. The blossoms are wonderful, but they are all gone. All there really here is green oranges, and a few old orange oranges high up in a few trees. I would love the smell, too!

  3. Sounds like a pretty place to stay, for a short while. I bet you are looking forward to being closer to the Sierras.
