Day 19
Today we left Bakersfield and the orange grove. We headed east and quickly were in the "mountains."
Turned out to be a brush fire. I just checked the fire news, it was only 100 acres, quickly put out, and probably started by a car fire. There is reported another brush fire started by a car outside of Baker, CA, too.
I saw lots of Joshua trees, but never took pictures thinking I'd see a lot. I think they are really cool. Maybe on this trip I can get up close to one. The above picture was a sight of what you see when you just get over the mountains. KaZillions of windmills! Of course I want to know how much money they are making and where is the power going? To Bakersfield? LA? Las Vegas?
You may not be able to see, but they are going over all those hills shown in this picture. On and On.
Into the high desert is this airplane resting zone. The planes go there for storage because it is very dry. There were also many more windmills here, too, on both sides of the foothills.
A Joshua Tree! with all those poles. This was where 2 major highways crossed in the middle of nowhere. 4 gas stations, an antique store, and a restaurant.
Shady Lane RV park. There were two streets-that is looking down one, no three. Our gray truck is on the right.
It is difficult to get pictures of the boys when walking them. The just won't pose. But you could possibly see the wind on Leinen's face.
I am so glad I can take my hearing aides out at night because the moles in every campground we've stayed at have been driving me crazy.
Their museum. An old phone booth with old stuff like a radio, toaster, 8 track tapes, old brochures and maps, and other fun stuff.
When I came up to this bush I saw a little bird peeking out of a hole. Of course when the camera went up, the bird disappeared.
What is this tree? Way cool. These big old trees give Shady Lane the shade. Our camper is quite shaded.
Today we left Bakersfield and the orange grove. We headed east and quickly were in the "mountains."

One thing I want to mention about my hearing aides. I have found out that in hot weather when everything is sweating-so are my ears! They get quite itchy. I take them out to just dry out my ears during the day. #problemswithhearingaides

It was a very windy drive to here. One spot of the road was quite bumpy, too. It was like driving Alaska with Bakersfield, and Barstow (where we are now) and nothing in between. There was a mine and an Air Force Base.
Timing... winds will continue the rest of the afternoon and early evening before decreasing by late evening. Winds will increase Saturday afternoon and continue through Sunday before starting to subside early Monday morning. * Winds... southwest-west 25 to 35 mph with gusts 40 to 50 mph. Gusts to 55 mph will be possible in the higher terrain. * Impacts... drivers of vans... campers... trailers... and other high profile vehicles should be alert to the danger of these winds. Isolated areas of blowing dust are possible and can lower visibility.
Weather report..........We will be leaving very early tomorrow morning. This RV park is the smallest we've stayed at, yet.

That's the end of today's pictures. Artie and Leinen had fun riding. When we start gathering things up and pull in the push out, Leinen gets all excited knowing it is truck time. The settled in to the ride quite well today. When I would open the window to take pictures Leinen would stand up and get a good smell of what was outside. They don't seem to like the wind, though.
Tomorrow is a little longer drive toward Las Vegas. See you there!
