Day 20

Day 20, on to Vegas.  We left at 8:15AM, early for us, to avoid wind and heat.
We were able to get to our camping spot by noon.  We did stop for an hour at Camping World to kill time.  The dogs were very nice companions again today.  Here are some pictures along the way. Well, I think some got out of order.
First is the picture of desert.  Yup, desert

Look-desert in the distance that is all sand

This was a cool touristy thing Richard mentioned was this giant thermometer.  You can see in the distance the lights like a thermometer.

Up close I could see the bottom number was 30, then 40, and on up to the number lit was 84.

Joshua trees!

The pictures don't give this justice.  It was huge.  Richard said it was a field of mirrors that shine into a tower in the middle.  Something about steam power is created.  Anyway, this brings in more power than solar panels.  He was telling me of one place that was built in the 70's.  The problem is that this kind of set up needs much more maintenance than solar panels.

It was pretty blinding.  You can kind of see white light going up or coming out of the tower in the middle.

Then there is this little touristy town at the border complete with outlet stores, roller coaster, casino, restaurants, and lots of stuff.

I thought this looked a lot like Kennicott Mine in Alaska.

Then there were these.  The fun part of this trip is I can go on Google Maps if there is something we are passing to find out what it is.  These are 7 Magic Mountains.  Well, it is art work in the middle of the desert.  If you want more info go to:

Entering Vegas
A cactus and large rock in our campground.  I tried to put the words between the pictures below, but can't figure that out.

Sorry, Fairbanks.

The end.
