Day 25, as June goes speeding past

Day 25 already.  If Artie and Leinen were writing they'd tell you how bored they were today.  We had a nice, cool walk this morning, then they were in the air conditioned trailer all day.  It is 83 degrees inside.  Cool enough they aren't panting a lot.  We rode a shuttle into the park at 9AM, and returned at 3PM.  By then, it was too hot outside for little doggies.  They did a quick trip to the grass, then quick trip back to the RV.  Next Tuesday it is predicted to be 110 degrees here.  We'll be in cool Bryce by then.  We are staying at campgrounds all the time now because of the heat.  We need to be plugged in to run the air conditioner.  We don't have enough solar power, and the generator is too expensive to run the air.  soooooo..........Koa tomorrow!  But today!  We went into Zion using the free shuttle.

OOOPS  I made a mistake and I deleted my photo library.  Richard fixed me back up and now my pictures are coming back from the cloud.  So, this is all you'll see of the blog today.

Cedar City tomorrow!

It is tomorrow, but I'm going to post like it is yesterday!  First of all, you should check out Richard's blog.  He says it all so nicely.  http://blog.machida.us/     My photos are all fixed and back on my computer.  So, here goes many, many pictures of big red rocks.
While walking the dogs I noticed this pair of robins flying around.  The robins down here are really big!

Going in to the park.  The sign says that flash flooding is not expected, not to worry.  But we were supposed to have lots of water since it was going to be in the 90's.  We took a shuttle from our campground to the park so we wouldn't have to worry about parking.  Then the park had a free shuttle in.  We decided to go all the way in to the end of the line and work our way back according to how much time our little hikes took.  We were there for under 6 hours.  The camp shuttle would pick us back up around 3:00.  We also had to wait 40 minutes in line to get on the park shuttle.

Our first hike was the hike for the Narrows.  This hike goes way back into the end of the canyon.  I decided to try out my selfie stick.

This looks like a statue.  They were everywhere!  Then there is a cactus on the right to remind me we were in the desert, still.  There were actually 3 eco systems in the park.  At the top would be the big cats, peregrine falcons.  In the middle were the big horn sheep.  At the bottom were scorpions, cactus, tortoises.

A phenomenon that was interesting to me was in certain spots of the rock there is water seeping out.  I read somewhere it takes about 1,000 years for the water to go through.  Where that is happening there are "hanging gardens."  They have ferns, columbine flowers, and other very green plants.

The Virgin River is what made the canyon, and it was flowing very nicely through the canyon.

I thought this big rock just sitting there was very cool.

I think this pic is rather ridiculous.

This is the point where Richard and I turned around.  You could rent special shoes and socks to hike through the river back into the Narrows.  That is going to be a good reason to come back.

The water had a pretty color

Here's more hanging gardens.

scenery from the bus

Look close in the middle.  It is a black-headed Grosbeak.  Sorry it is so small, I have even enlarged it from photos.

Richard explains these very well in his blog.   http://blog.machida.us/

More cactus.
We got back to the park by 3:30.  That left time for me to do some crocheting instead of this blog!  lol

  1. Generators too expensive to run? I thought those Champions were pretty good or is it too much hassle to keep them fueled up? Our onboard 4KW generator can do the AC just fine and it draws from the chassis fuel tank (it'll stop if the level drops below 1/4).

    1. Too much hassle to keep them filled up. They would be great for one day then I'd have to run into town to get more gas. I don't want to haul a lot of gas in cans in the bed of the truck.

    2. ah, that's what I figured. No way to somehow siphon gas from the truck's tank?
