We left Cedar City and drove about an hour and half to Bryce Canyon. Ruby's Resort is what I call it. A man named Reuben settled here and built a ranch one hundred years ago. He didn't realize he was close to this marvelous geological wonder until someone pointed it out to him. Right away he started a little tourist business and took people up there to see Bryce Canyon. More and more people came. The railroad brought more people. Then it became a National Monument, then a National Park. Now there is a 250 site RV park (biggest we've been in, yet), two hotels, restaurants, curiosity shops, big grocery store, art gallery, ATV rentals, rodeo, and horse back riding. I'm sure there is something I'm missing.
ok, I'm trying to upload/download whatever load pics, and they aren't happening. I'll now be two days behind. Ya Hoo! Turning everything off, then back on worked! The below picture shows us driving to Bryce. I have never been on top of the Colorado Plateau. It is flat, and full of cattle. Just lovin' it!
As we get closer to Bryce we go through Red Rock Canyon. This is a man made arch cut out for the cars. After we parked the RV we went to Bryce Canyon. Oh. My. Goodness. I have seen pictures, but they don't tell how HUGE it is! The below picture is taken on the ridge. Hoodoos!
There is a free shuttle into Bryce Canyon. It really only goes half way, but it goes to a great viewpoint. You can get off the shuttle and take another one. Many people also drove their cars, today had plenty of parking. At one point we got off the shuttle and hiked to the next one. The viewpoints have these nice railings, but once you get on a trail to walk to another viewpoint you loose the fence.
I'm standing close to the edge here.-no fence. Places there were fences you could see where it has been moved back because Bryce Canyon is always growing. There is always natural erosion happening due to snow, rain, and wind.
I liked how this pine was growing here on the edge. It was young, how long will it be able to hang on?
I took the above picture to show that far, far away are more plateau with more red cliffs.
If you can kind of make out the hoodoo in the middle of the picture. This one is called Thor's Hammer and is the one you see on a lot of Bryce Canyon things.

Richard mentioned how fascinating it was that this tree still had life.
There is a Brewery in Fairbanks called "Hoodoo" I wonder why.
Oh, yesterday in Cedar City we saw "Wet Willy's Car Wash" that also had "Automotive Design" Fairbanksans would recognize those names. Plus down the street was Arctic Circle restaurant that served halibut. hmm........
The trail goes all the way around the rim. Several miles around.
After Bryce Canyon was home sweet RV.
Really nice set of pictures of the hoodoos Bridget!
