Today is Day 34. First time at a campground, not an RV park.

We are in Mesa Verde National Park.  I still need to show you pictures of the flowers.  I am going to start with the Juniper Berry.  I have always been drawn to the scent of the Juniper Berry when I purchase Bath and Body Works hand soaps.  I learned a lot about the plant.
You should be able to read the upper picture.  It was going on to say that the Ord's kangaroo rats don't drink water.  There is a certain plant whose seed the rats eat.  They get enough moisture from that seed and excrete only a few drops of concentrated urine.  Back to the Juniper trees....they were all over.  They self-prune.  I have never really looked at the waxy surface of the berries, but this picture really shows up close how they look.

You can kind of see the waxy surface.

Says about the same thing

Here is a Juniper Berry tree.

Here is a close-up, you can see some dead branches.

And here is another look at dead branches.  Suddenly I can type to the right of the picture.  I wonder if Dom can help me next week understand how to place pictures and text.  Cactus.  There are a lot of signs telling everyone to stay on the paths.  There is something that grows up from the soil that looks like bumpy soil.  I didn't get a picture of that.  It is bacteria in the ground growing.  It takes decades or so to grow-one step and it is destroyed.

Sagebrush.

I liked the look of pine cones on this tree.

The cones on this tree looked like mini pineapples.  For some reason the picture didn't transfer over.  I'll try again later.

I thought this plant looked interesting.

I couldn't tell if these were the flowers, or what is left over after the flowers-like seed pods.

There are sooooo many flowers out here.  Some are tall and spindly like this one, some are about 1/4"

We are in Mesa Verde-I have some travel pics to post.  It takes me lots longer to blog since I have to send my pics from my phone to my computer on very slow wifi.  Richard just does his on his phone.  Today's big excitement was that he got to go tour an ancient Pueblo house while I did laundry.  My choice.  The hike said it was strenuous and I didn't want that.  And I was out of a few things in the clothing department.  I will see the houses tomorrow, but I won't be inside.  I'm sure Richard has posted good pics by now on his blog.  Check it out!
