Glacier National Park

Hello, and welcome back to my blog.  Today was a treat.  I was thinking I would see same old, same old, like I see every day in Alaska, but no, this was different.  Mountains anywhere always excites me, too.  These did look different.  Maybe because the road went along the side of the mountains, or the closeness of the mountains, or something.  Anyway, I have 40 pictures to show you.  I am going to start downloading them now, and it may take hours.  Stay tuned...........
The first major beauty in Glacier is this very long lake.  I believe it is called MacDonald Lake.  Isn't this picture gorgeous?

If you've been in my bathroom you know I collect river rocks and keep them in a bowl of water.  I was a good girl in this national park and I left them all there.

We drove the Road to the Sun.  Here are some scenes.

On the left is what they call Weeping Wall.  If you look at the GPS on the truck's dashboard you would see that it says only around 5,000 feet.  Back in Utah everything seemed to be 7,000 and higher.  We camped at 9,000.  The peaks in the picture are 8,000- 9,000 high.  We slept in campgrounds that high, but they didn't seem to be that high.  Perspective.

Pike's Peak was over 14,000 feet high!  Add a few thousand to these peaks.  Maybe because all those were gradual and this is rocky and straight up.  I don't know.  Perspective.
This is looking back at the Weeping Wall after we went around a bend in the road.  The 2 red vehicles are very old tour cars from the 30's.  Their roofs are open so the tourists can stand up to take pictures.  There were a lot of them on the road, and I assume the next time we come we'll cough up the money to ride.

This is called Triple Arches.

This is a close up of a water fall.

Here it is from where we were parked.  There were lots of beautiful water falls, most too hard to take pictures of because of how we were on the road.

There were three visitor center's in the park.  We didn't stop here because it was quite crowded and the sign said parking lot full.  We went over the continental divide many times on this summer trip.

We did get to the parking lot because I needed to use the bathroom while Richard drove around and around.  Sounds like Yosemite, doesn't it?  You can see a tour car if you look close.

I really like this picture because of the round valley.
That's all I'm putting in today.  It takes about 45 minutes per group of seven pictures to get uploaded.  Maybe better wifi tomorrow.
I just glanced at Richard's blog.  He got his done right away.  He was sitting in his chair in the air conditioning blogging before I even had the truck unpacked!  I don't complain because he did the driving and let me see all the sights.  He uses his phone and has the pics right there, so he doesn't need fast wifi to upload, download, or whatever load.  And gosh, I just can't post only 5 pictures!  You haven't seen the animals and flowers, yet!
Have a great tomorrow all!  We should be staying at someone's place tomorrow, an old friend of Richard's.

  1. That was my thought too...Hello, it's still the Rocky Mountains, but Glacier is different, beautiful and I love how you have to really want to go to Glacier...it's not an "oh, while we are in the area, let's stop by" type of place...OK, so you have that going for you in AK also...

  2. I used the campground wifi. It took less than 10 minutes for 5 pictures.
