Today.......looooong day. But it didn't seem as bad as yesterday. I didn't sleep well last night. I slept in the 2nd bed with the dogs because Leinen was barking at everything walking past the room. I also was feeling anxious, and hot. The room was hot. We kept the window open and the ceiling fan on. It still was hot. I think the heater was stuck on. Besides that, it was a very dog friendly room with 2 beds, a kitchen table, refrigerator, and bathroom. We'd stay again.
I knew when we were leaving that this would be the day to see animals. A few miles out of town I spotted a fox right away carrying breakfast in its mouth. Within 10 miles of Watson Lake we saw the edge of a recent forest fire, and could smell burnt trees. There was a lit sign mentioning bad visibility and to be careful on the road. Right away after that we saw a black bear. It had been hit. So sad.
I'm always trying to get the "Welcome to" signs as we drive past them. So the shots usually turn out like this. ha ha ha
Soon we saw one enormous beautiful bison. They are my favorite to see on the road. I was disappointed it was only one. Which got me to thinking, "What is the difference between a bison and a buffalo?" "Why is there only one, I thought they traveled in herds?" I couldn't google my questions because we were out of cell phone range. OK, I took a break and checked. They are called bison. Buffalo live in Africa.
Next came two, smaller bison. Then a bunch! Farther down the road, another bunch! Here is a pic of a youngster and a part of a herd.

I have always admired this lodge. Today we actually went in and used the rest rooms. It is like in the middle of no where. The rest rooms were very, very nice. I think it is open all year. We stopped here to use the rest rooms because BC didn't have any at the rest stops like the Yukon had. Richard said the daily special at the restaurant was $38.95. He didn't think to ask what it was.
The road was pretty much looking like this. It got cloudier and cloudier. Richard was concerned that we would run into snow.

Then one more bison by itself.
Next animal to see was one lone stone sheep. Then the caribou started. We saw 15 total in 6 different sightings.
And this black bear. Yes, the white stuff was snow, but as you can see it was sunny when we were partly through the mountains. It never snowed on us!
After this we also saw elk, cows (domestic), another black bear, and geese.
Then the road was pretty much like this for the last third of the day. We went 1020 kilometers today. Tomorrow will be just as many, but more 100 kph so it should take us less time. Hopefully we'll be in Washington tomorrow! Thanks for reading. Bridget
Love all the wildlife pics!
