Cleaning up in Corvallis and Day 1 in Florence

What a beautiful day!  Yesterday we traveled from Corvallis to Florence.  It was sunny and warm.  Perfect weather.  Today it is pouring down rain, so I am taking the day to work on this blog-too many pictures today.  I hope you enjoy them!  Please send me notes on facebook or comment here if you even look at them.  Dom-you are great replying to my pics, thanks.
We are sitting in the adult only "common building."  This place has much better wifi than at our campsite.  Earlier we went to Fred Meyers for groceries and a few other items.  Richard refilled one of the propane tanks.
Back to yesterday.  Here are the giant oak trees that drop acorns on everything.  They seem like, to me, trees from a Tolkein novel or movie. Must be a great name for them.......

Here I am ready to ascend to the top of the trailer!  I tried to fly the broom up, but.....

The first step is on the bumper-----a long step for short legs.  This is what I found on top.

I found acorns, some sort of dried berry or nut, and black splats.  Richard said it was bird poo, but I didn't think so because it is black.  I found black splats on the side of the trailer, so I guess Richard is right.  You can see the slide with the debris.
Richard took these pictures of me.  I lightened them up so you could see my coat and me better.  I really like climbing.  I was always the girl in the tree reading a book when I was growing up.

The view of the park from up top.  I was happily sweeping away when I heard, "Hey!"  Oops, I just swept acorns on top of Richard.  Sorry.

Going down is a little harder with the twisting and short legs, but I did fine.
The cockpit with all of Richard's gadgets.  The monitor in the center of the dashboard is the newest item.  It is the monitor for the back up camera.  There is also a tire gage hanging and more things below you don't see in the pic.

Happy dogs?  Well, I wonder if Artie gets a little car sick when we are driving.  He doesn't puke, but he when we finally arrived he stayed on the couch for awhile.  He looks happy in the second picture, but his ear is a little down.  He might be stressed panting.
In Florence!  Going over the historic bridge looking at the dunes in the distance.  The picture on the right is what you see when you look out the door.

This is where Leinen goes when the insta-pot is cooking.  Later he was sitting on the couch anticipating the sound.  Richard opened a coke.  It fizzed, Leinen jumped.

 This.
Here is another historic bridge built in the 30's.  I'm standing on the beach where the light house is.
Imagine living here in the early 1900's.  You have a view like this every day.  Travel around on horseback.

See the lighthouse in the picture with the white picket fence?

I could live with this view every day.  The building on the right was a gift store, closed for the season.  Richard mentioned in his blog a down side of traveling outside of tourist seasons.

 and this.

Here are two pictures I took of the lighthouse.  What I don't understand is what did I do to the iPhone to make it so dark?  I didn't change it on Photos.  hmmmm......  It is a working lighthouse.  Richard got there ahead of me and took a picture inside of the stairs going up.

This was taken from a viewpoint down the road.  You can see the lighthouse, and residence in the pictures.

We discovered a group of sea lions.    Groups of sea lions have many names depending on where they are: on land they are a colony, in water they are called a raft, during breeding seasons they're referred to as a rookery and when several females are in one male's territory, they're called a harem.        This is from Canadian Geographic.

We traveled just a little further to the Sea Lion Caves.  I have noticed painted sea lions around Florence.

I thought the view of the sea lions swimming along was fantastic.  Richard looked at them and said the next crew was swimming to the caves for their shift.  We didn't pay the $12.00 each to go down into the caves.  I did get a collectable penny, though!  We didn't find a magnet we liked.

This was taken this morning.  This is what Artie and Leinen think of the rain.  I made the red, black, gray blanket while visit Mom in Corvallis.  It's to help keep the couch a little cleaner, and give them something to snuggle with.  This will probably be all the pictures for today.  Sometime I'll post the crocheting I'm doing, at least what I haven't given away.  Everyone I visit gets a dishcloth!

  1. Some really nice pics of the beach area!

So glad, as I said to Richard, that my URRV came with an awning on the slideout.

Quite the device-laden "control center" at the front.....cool.

    1. Thanks, Dom, more coming today! I have asked Richard to explain some of the gadgets. He is so patient, but I still don't understand a lot.

  2. Wow, you did climb up there? Was it a slippery task?

With the downside of closed gift shops during late season comes the upside of not having to deal with busloads of tourists standing in the way of your pics.

    1. Sonja, that is so right! There are no crowds anywhere except for the grocery store the other day when it was raining. Florence must have a high population of senior citizens because Richard and I were the youngest there.

  3. Thanks for the dishcloth!!

And yes, that's bird poop, the birds are eating the blackberries that are in season. Glad you're enjoying the coast, hope the weather clears up for you.

    1. You are welcome for the dishcloth. I tried to be sly when I planted it on the sink. My new hobby. Everybody's getting one for Christmas! lol. From the lady at this campground, she said the rains are just starting for the winter. We'll be out of them in a week.
