So I'm way late for this post. Bad wifi for days, then good wifi! So instead of catching up my blog I watched 2 netflix's.
This is titled "My husband really loves me!" due to a conversation we had a few days ago driving to a museum that was on my bucket list. "If I didn't love you, I wouldn't be going to the Charles Schulz Museum."
Yes, the Charles Schulz museum. It's been on my list since I heard about it from friends who were there a little over a year ago.
Immediately at the entrance you find this wall, and this statue. And a penny machine. Have I mentioned before how I collect pennies? Have been since I was a child. I have one with the Lord's Prayer on it even. I googled that, and it isn't rare.
A History of the World. Volcanoes erupted. Oceans boiled. The universe was in a turmoil. Then came the dog. I took the free tour with a very good docent. Lots of humor, facts, stories, and enlightenment.
We started in this room. There is a mural on the wall of Charley Brown going to kick the football. If you look up close you can see it is made of thousands of cartoon strips. Here is a closeup.
There was a room dedicated to Sally. Sorry, no pictures. The first floor, he told us, changes displays every few months or so. Not just the displays, but they also remove and build walls according to what they want to highlight.
One section was dedicated to the Year of the Dog. Guess which one? Plus they also highlighted dogs from other cartoons.
Here is a reproduction of his office. He lived close by. When they opened the museum they just moved his office, including built in bookcases over to the museum. He always thought of himself as just average.
He had many books of different subjects, including the Bible. Here is a shelf with Beethoven's. BTW, it was said that one day in Berkley some students did a protest that Schroeder only played Beethoven. Why not Brahms? Our docent went on to explain that Schultz used three syllable words a lot because they sounded funnier.
There was a display of awards. Did you know there is a Reuben award for the best cartoonist? Sparkey (Charles Schultz) was the first to win it twice. I have that book-Happiness is a Warm Puppy. He also got that other award you see on the left.

Below you can see a Ripley's Believe It Or Not cartoon. My brother read these regularly. Here is one of the first published cartoons by Sparky. As you can see in the picture, Spike was a dog that Sparkey based Snoopy from. There were a lot of connections in his writings. Charlie Brown was a real person, a friend from art school.
And it comes from the right, not left. I'm going to ignore this oddity. There was another wooden mural. The stages of Snoopy starting with his drawings of his dog. At first Snoopy was on all fours. Everything changed when he started walking on two feet.

Sparky built this neighborhood ice skating rink. Inside was a coffee shop where he had breakfast and lunch every day. Famous skaters have skated here and have their names written in cement.
These pictures were from driving yesterday. This first one was taken on 101. The roller coasters are from a Six Flags.
Jelly Belly factory tours. Right beside the Budwiser factory tours. Both free tours. I would have loved the Jelly Belly tour, but we were pulling the 5th wheel, and I am very limited with my sugar.
Sniff, sniff, sniff. Arrived at this posh, expensive RV Park. Except it is half price on Passport America. It looks pretty empty? Within hours most places were occupied. This seems to be a one or two day stopping for most people. The best part of this park is the dog park.
Look how huge the fenced in dog walk area is!!!!! Look closely to see the little dots of the doggies. I took them for the second time this morning. They were even more comfortable and went running side by side. At one point they stopped and were looking at something. Artie was wagging his tail. There was a kitty on the other side of the fence. Last park and this park have had kitties roaming around. There were 5 in our little area at the last park. I've seen 3 here so far. The boys were so good. I was picking up poop when they wandered way off to the other side. Someone came in the gate way over there to empty the poop bucket. They were very friendly and didn't try to escape with him. A few parks ago when there was a leash free dog park someone left and left the gate open. Artie was very sly and left. Yesterday he tried to leave again, but couldn't get out. He didn't try today.
I think someone is brushing their dog close by because white tufts of hair keep rolling by like tumbleweed. That's all for now. I wonder what the wifi will be like next spot. It took just a few minutes today to get the pictures on the blog. Before it was taking a half an hour.

I don’t expect WiFi or even Verizon at the next campground.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pics of the Charles Schulz museum. I love the characters since childhood. My favourite was Peppermint Patty, maybe because I never warmed up to Snoopy. (I'm a cat person...).
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about this museum, cool stuff...I'm more of a Calvin and Hobbes man.
ReplyDeleteCalvin and Hobbes is good, too, but I haven't found their museum, yet! lol. I did go to an Anime museum in Japan........
DeleteI would love to see this museum! His characters were all so real to me...and he thought himself average...hardly so!
